B&W. Close-up view of workers with 30-ton drill car used during Tamiami Trail construction. Originally captioned "Drilling holes for blasting. Day and night for 28 months, this machine drilled through solid rock." Original typed notation on reverse reads "This is the drill car which preceded the walking dredge. Note three drills. Holes were filled with dynamite and charge loosened rock which was taken out for road bed. Hole became the ditch or Tamiami Canal. After digging holes for a section the rails were carried forward to keep car moving." |
